Villa Samadhi - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

When I imagine a tranquil postcard-like hotel with a luxurious touch and beautiful surroundings, I think Maldives, Bora Bora, and maybe Bali. Did I expect to find a unique accommodation, which let me forget about everyday chores completely during my visit to Kuala Lumpur? The hotel has god a strong reputation on all major review websites: Tripadvisor, Google, and, which convinced me that I would be in for a five-star quality treat even prior to arrival. In fact, Villa Samadhi appeared to be unforgettable experience and not just a quality accommodation.

On arrival, I entered the hotel (which I would love to rather call a resort) area, which was completely isolated from the buzz of Kuala Lumpur. As soon as you enter, you sense the smell of a subtle oriental incense, which completely blows your mind away from whatever what you were thinking of before your arrival, until you had to depart again.

The concept of Samadhi is to offer transcendent experience, where the anxieties of daily life are surrendered at it’s doors and guests transition to a relaxed state of mind. In Sansktit, Samadhi is is the highest state of meditation – the moment when the mind achieves stillness and and a state of meditative consciousness.

I was welcomed by extremely friendly receptionists and given a wet towel and a cold drink to refresh after a trip, and was taken to my room very shortly.

Our lovely suite, which was natural wood-made yet extremely modern, was one of the best hotel rooms that I have seen in my life! With a huge comfortable bed, working station with all essentials, lounge area, never-ending drinking water and a massive wardrobe, it has had everything I needed. I even found a plate of fresh fruit and some traditional snacks in the room! However, the highlight of my room was the bathroom, which had an open-air private plunge pool with Jacuzzi (wow!). Entertainment was also available but I did not need it; spent most of my time outdoors in the beautiful garden (or in our plunge pool).

The outdoor area had a gorgeous lagoon-like swimming pool, surrounded by tropical plants and Balinese decorations and sculptures. I could spend all day by the pool: lounge areas and the sunbeds were cleverly designed to maintain your privacy and relaxation, and refreshments were always available. Moreover, if you got bored of the pool, you could acquaint yourself with the ‘pets’ of Villa Samadhi: they introduced me to a really friendly family of tortoises and explained me about their lives and even a special diet, that the animals were given.

Breakfasts at Villa Samadhi were the best that I tasted in the South East Asia. Buffet always had plenty of healthy options, both local and Western, and you were additionally offered a pick from a plentiful A La Carte menu, as well as a smoothie and a coffee of your choice. The hotel also offered a complimentary pre-dinner cocktail at their bar, which is a must!

For dinner, I opted to try out Neo Tamarind, also run by Samadhi family, which was a 10-minute car ride away from the hotel, in the most central part of Kuala Lumpur, which was an excellent choice. The restaurant itself is elegantly setup on a beautiful hill which was light up after sunset. I tasted a nice variety of starters and barbecue meats and a steak, all were cooked to perfection. The menu also had a large selection for non-meat eaters.

It is important to mention that after dinner, on return to the hotel, I was treated to a lovely surprise: high quality VSOP was placed on my bed to enjoy while chilling in my open-air bath, before going to bed.

All in all, I wish have an opportunity to return to the sophistic environment of Villa Samadhi, which is one and only place to retreat if you happen to be in the busy city of Kuala Lumpur.
